Tips for Reducing College Costs

Giving our clients educational information that helps them to make the best financial decisions for their personal goals is a big deal to us. We are THE Fiduciary Firm for a reason- we will help you make the best decision for your needs. It is quite literally ALL-ABOUT-YOU! As it should be.

One of our services that we are so happy has received a lot of attention is our College Planning branch called Get Educated! Save ON College. Our team is passionate about educating our clients so that they can make the best informed decision for their student, their family and their retirement. Here's the thing, many people begin to put money away maybe before they have had children, maybe once they start a family and that is allocated as either "savings," "college fund," or "retirement." Can many people save enough to NOT pull money for college from their retirement? And as you get older you run out of time to keep saving. What happens when you hit retirement age and don't have enough to live off of? That is a big problem facing many Americans.

I was at a High School a few weeks ago and a term I used to explain what we do and how we help our clients Save ON and not just FOR College was a coin. Now, some people are proactive and have been planning or at least saving a bit since their child was born or not too long after whereas some are a little more reactive and hit the "Oh Crap" moment when they realized the time to choose a college for their High School student is upon them and OOPS they didn't really do a great job planning. That's where the coin comes in; on one side of the coin we help our clients by giving them real information about their college choices such as graduation rate, how likely said college is to give a tuition discount, which scholarships might their student qualify for at a specific school, and my absolute favorite- how much are others in my income range paying at my selected school, and much more. This kind of information helps people select which school may best suit their needs. The other side of the coin is how you're going to pay for it without depleting all of your savings so that you can retire with dignity. This dual approach allows us to help both the early stage and late stage planners.
